Upcoming Trends for 2019

Helen Turner

It’s the time of year again when the trade shows are in full swing - we love going to them to discover new brands and source exciting new products that we think you’ll love. Each year, experts in the gift industry make their predictions for which trends are going to emerge and these are the big ones for 2019!

  1. British Handmade Goods

We’re so happy to see this trend appearing this year, as we love to champion local makers here at Not Socks Again. We’re really proud to stock so many products that are designed here in South Wales and we always look to buy from other small businesses in the UK whenever we can.

  2. Mindfulness and Wellbeing

Self care has been discussed more and more in recent years, especially as we seem to be living with more uncertainty which can take a toll on our mental health. One of our favourite products that we stock in this category are I Can Cards - positive affirmation cards covering a range of topics such as self love, depression and anxiety. They were a complete sell out just before Christmas and we’re looking forward to stocking up on them ready for our reopening. We’ll also be introducing the new I Can Children’s Cards to our product range.

  3. Personalisation

This seems to be a trend that is here to stay as the personalised gifts market just keeps growing and growing! We’ve got some exciting plans in the pipeline in this area so watch this space!!

  4. Sustainability

The UK continues to be determined to do the right thing in terms of environmental issues and this is leading to an increased demand for reusable and repurposed products. We have a great range of reusable mugs, water bottles and shopping bags, including Shop Penarth products.

For more details on the Shop Penarth scheme, visit

It also looks like some of last year’s trends are sticking around this year - cactus, tropical and panda designs seem here to stay for now!

We can’t wait to launch all of our new product lines for Spring/Summer 2019 - check them out online and in store from late February.

Renovation Chat!

Helen Turner

As you may well have seen on our social media channels, or if you live locally, we’ve taken the big decision to close for a few weeks while we have some renovation work done at our shop. It’s coming up for 2 years since we opened (which is crazy!) and there are some updates we’ve been wanting to do for quite a while now. Unfortunately they’ve had to be prioritised as we had flood damage in our basement just before Christmas which forced us to close for a week - a total nightmare for any small business, let alone during one of the busiest times of the year! So as we’re in a position of having to have some repairs done, we thought we’d turn the situation into a positive and have all of the other updates done at the same time and hopefully be back with an even better store for you on the other side!

As a small business, it’s a bit daunting to chose to close for an extended period of time but we’re confident that it’ll have a great impact in the long term. Having some time away from the store is also giving us the opportunity to source loads of fantastic new products for you so that we can reopen with a bang in late February! We’ve got a gorgeous new spring window display up our sleeves which we think you’re going to love and will be launching a fantastic range of Mother’s Day products too.

In the meantime, you can still shop online with us at and we will have a different offer on each week whilst we are closed. You can currently get free postage on all greeting cards by entering the code FREECARDPOSTAGE at the checkout (valid until midnight on 3rd February 2019. Check back on Monday for our next deal). We’re always adding new products online so if you haven’t visited for a while then make sure you pop by for a browse!

We just want to say thank you for your patience whilst we get our revamp underway - we really hope it’ll be worth the wait!
